The "Schedule Guy" Story

"Schedule Guy" (SG) is so much to so many – coach, scheduler, administrator, volunteer, husband, father, and family provider, and now, problem solver. SG is the man behind SportzAdmin. He is organized and dependable; caring for others before himself. He recognizes administrators’ problems because he once was where they are now.

In 1999, SG began his love affair with soccer as a volunteer coach of his son’s team. He soon gave further of himself and became active in other local leagues and his state association. As a volunteer, SG spent endless hours helping the organizations with registration and scheduling. These were manual processes, and consumed most of his evening and weekend time, robbing him of valued family time. Ironically, his passion for soccer had begun with his desire to spend more time with his son, yet more and more he was forced to sacrifice time with his family for the administrative duties to which he had committed. SG began searching for a company to help automate these time-consuming processes with a comprehensive registration and scheduling program.

After spending a year researching companies, viewing demonstrations, and talking with other league administrators, SG concluded that the packages available were insufficient, and limited to handling the needs of small leagues. Knowing his need was shared by others, SG committed himself to the creation of a web-based, real-time application, which included registration capabilities, robust scheduling and day-to-day administrative features, all integrated into a user-friendly package.

SG was aware of all the conflicts and parameters involved with soccer scheduling and that a truly comprehensive solution would involve very complex mathematical models. He spent several years and most of his savings consulting with some of the world’s most talented mathematicians, resulting only in failure to provide an acceptable solution. At one time, SG considered abandoning his quest because highly reputable consultants advised him … “to formulate a mathematical model capable of handling over 1,700 teams with nearly 100 variables and thousands of conflicts is impossible.”

Still, he persisted, until he finally found an individual intrigued enough by the complexity of the problem to take it on as a personal challenge. At last, after four years of determination and patience, Power SchedulerTM was born. Today, for Schedule Guy and thousands of soccer administrators like him, the dream is a reality.
